This position is responsible for supervising the grounds crew at the Chester or Midlothian campus, to include landscape maintenance of college grounds, care and maintenance of lawns, plantings, flowerbeds, paved, and natural areas; operation and maintenance of vehicles and equipment; compliance with safety standards; classroom set-ups and deliveries; and other duties as assigned by Supervisor. Serves as essential personnel during inclement weather and/or college closures. The Grounds Lead Worker for the Chester and Midlothian campuses will both be hired from this posting.

High school diploma (or equivalent) required. Considerable experience in grounds maintenance or landscaping required. Certified pesticide applicatorâ™s license is preferred or ability to obtain within 12 months. Ability to follow oral and written instructions regarding a variety of grounds maintenance tasks. Considerable knowledge of grounds maintenance principles, materials, and methods, equipment operation and repair, landscaping, horticulture, turf management, and workplace safety. Requires ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions for extended periods of times. Excellent customer service and communication skills for interacting and collaborating with a diverse group of employees, students, and visitors to the college campus. Ability to take initiative and contribute to a high level of team performance and morale with little supervision. Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. Valid Virginia Driverâ™s license is required.
